Animation workshops in Kettering

What is ‘Get Animating’?

‘Get Animating’ is an exciting animation workshop that teaches everything you need to know about animation and gives great hands-on experience using traditional stop-motion techniques.  Working in small groups, you will embark on this creative journey through storytelling, character development, set design and animation to produce an original short animated film.  You will gain knowledge and experience in: storytelling, storyboarding, concept art, character development, character design, claymation modelling, stop-motion animation, operating cameras and recording sound effects.


‘Get Animating’ is designed to give students an introduction to animation and inspire young animators and film-makers to build on the knowledge that they gain from this intensive workshop and continue to create short films after completing this course.  Students may wish to continue to developing animation and film-making skills by attending one of our follow-on courses*.

All course are taught by a qualified animator with BA (Hons) Animation and experience working as an animator, writer and producer.  All members of staff and volunteers are CRB checked. 

Each workshop will have a maximum of 12 student places.


*Follow-on courses involve: squash and stretch techniques, animating walk cycles, cut-out animation, hand drawn animation and gesture drawing.


What will I learn?

Upon completing the course, all students will be able to:
  • set up and use animation software on a computer
  • animate with an animation camera or webcam
  • create a short storyboard
  • design and create an animation model
  • test model movements
  • demonstrate understanding of animation techniques
  • create stop-motion character animations
  • design and make sets and props to help tell a story
  • record and edit voice-overs and sound effects
  • make an original short animated film


What are the requirements for this workshop?

No previous animation or film-making experience is necessary.  Students should be between 8 and 16 years of age*.
